The hydrophilic surface (Figure 9) assists with the early stages of osseointegration by increasing bone-to-implant contact (BIC), as observed in a preclinical study and suggested by prior research.15,16 Implants with the Acqua surface are indicated for implantation in grafted areas, in combination with bone graft procedures, post-extraction placement and sites with low bone density.17,18
